Elements and tags

Listen to this lesson

SpeedNo voice in this browser: the lesson still highlights line by line

An element is an opening tag, some content and a closing tag: <p>Hello</p>. The tag name says what the content is, not how it looks.

A few elements are empty and have no closing tag, like <br>, <img> and <input>.

Watch the DOM tree on the right while you type: every tag you write becomes a node.

Example

Your task

0/3 checks

Write a main heading "My Portfolio" and two paragraphs under it.

  • An <h1> that says "My Portfolio"
  • Two <p> paragraphs
  • No loose text directly in <body>

Click anything in the preview or the tree to inspect it: its path, role, accessible name and attributes.

About HTML Lab
